Daily Skin Care Routine

Daily Skincare Routine

In today’s post, I’m going to share my daily skincare routine with you. I have oily skin and the products mentioned in this post are what I’m currently using and that have been working for me.

To be totally honest, taking proper care of my skin is something I only started less than a year ago and I can already see such a huge difference in the quality of my skin. I firmly believe that beauty begins with what you put inside your body and whatever you put on the outside is just to complement that.

Skin Care Routine

  1. Cleanse

I’ve been using The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash for the last 7-8 months and I’m absolutely in love with it. I wash my face with this twice a day and it has definitely helped clear my skin a lot. It works wonders in keeping my face from looking oily but if you have dry skin, I wouldn’t recommend this.

  1. Tone

Toning is something I’ve only recently added to my routine. I usually use a toner I prepare by mixing one portion of Apple Cider Vinegar with two portions of water (if you’re just starting off, I recommend using three or four portions of water instead). This ACV toner is great at maintaining the natural pH level of your skin and also prevents breakouts. My only complaint is the smell, but you could add a drop of lavender essential oil to the toner and that solves the problem!

On some days, I just spray some rose water on my face and I feel it works great as a toner and it is super refreshing.

  1. Serum

For the longest time I thought serums are just more expensive moisturizers, but I understand now that they’re more expensive because they offer more concentrated ingredients and deeper-penetrating effects on your skin. I’ve been using Nutrogena’s Fine Fairness Brightening Serum which claims to reduce dark spots on the skin. What I like about it is that it has retinol and I like the way it smells. I haven’t really observed any reduction in my dark spots but I do like the way this feels on my skin.

  1. Moisturize

I use Nutrogena’s Oil Free Moisturizer for Combination Skin. I really like how non-greasy this is and it gives my skin a matte finish without leaving it oily or shiny. It is perfect for my skin and I think the pump bottle that it comes in is very convenient.

  1. Eye Cream

I’ve been using The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Eyes Cube for a few months now. To be honest, I only picked this up because of its cute packaging but I must admit I quite like the product as well. I glide the stick under my eyes and on my eyelids and it has the most amazing cooling and soothing effect. I feel using this makes my eyes look brighter and refreshed and it helps that this is paraben-free.

  1. Sunscreen

If there were only one skin care product I could use for the rest of my life, it would have to be sunscreen. It keeps you looking young by preventing ageing, keeps your skin tone even and helps reduce the risk of getting skin cancer among many other benefits it offers. I do believe it’s important to soak in some sunlight for Vitamin D but only before 10 am because the rays after that are claimed to do more harm than good.

I’ve currently been using three different sunscreens depending on whether I spend my day mostly indoor or outdoor: Lotus Sunscreen Gel with Babchi Seed Extract SPF 20, Aroma Magic Aloe Vera Sunscreen Gel SPF 20 and Lotus 3-in-1 Matte Look Daily Sunblock SPF 40. I would recommend using SPF 30 at least if you’re spending a considerable amount of time in direct sunlight.

I use sunscreen everyday regardless of what season it is and reapply every 4-5 hours. All the three sunscreens I use are physical sunscreens, which basically means that they protect my skin by deflecting, or blocking sun’s rays (as opposed to chemical sunscreens which work by absorbing the sun’s rays and changing the UV rays into heat and then releasing the heat from the skin).

I follow the same routine at night minus the sunscreen. It is essential to apply these products in the order mentioned above. As a general rule, after cleansing, you should start with the lightest feeling products to the heaviest. This will ensure all the products absorb into your skin easily.

I exfoliate my face once or twice a week. Also, I’m not too big on using make up but if you are, then it’s important to use a good make up remover before you cleanse your face. For the times I do use make up, I use Maybelline Express Eye & Lip Make Up Remover.

I am in no way a skin care expert. These are just products that have been working for me. Also, I do like trying out new products every now and then and my skincare routine keeps changing every few months.

Hope you enjoyed this post. Would love to hear what products you guys use as part of your daily skincare routine. Let me know in the comments below.
